Pneumapure: A Filter to Combat HAIs

The Problem

Every year in the US, 99,000 people die from healthcare acquired infections (HAIs), which is more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. From sanitizing wipes to UV sterilization, hospitals are doing everything within their power to clean hard surfaces to prevent cross-contamination among patients and caregivers.

Unfortunately, current sterilization methods are only topical and do nothing to address soft surfaces, such as pillows and mattresses, where patients spend most of their time. Currently, all pillows on the market are susceptible to contamination by their very design; their stitched seams enable countless pathogens to enter and exit their interiors. As a result, these soft surfaces have become reservoirs of deadly infections like MRSA, C. diff, E. coli, Candida, and more. We know this because in every healthcare facility we’ve tested, the interior of the sewn pillows contained bacterial DNA, viral DNA, and human DNA from blood. With each new patient, these pathogens are re-suspended into the air, putting both patients and caregivers at risk for infection.

The Pneumapure Solution

Spry Therapeutics, is committed to helping healthcare facilities eliminate soft surfaces as a vector for contamination. Our patented filter technology enables soft-surface filtration, which blocks all pathogens down to .02 micron from entering or exiting your pillows. In doing so, we are able to help your facility reduce HAI rates, improve clinical outcomes, and reduce the financial burdens associated with HAIs – which exceed $35 billion a year in the US alone.
